Scholarships: when Gilly and Sandra were in Myanmar in 2010, visiting the first school that URBK built, Gilly received the news that her older brother, Ifor Thomas, had died suddenly in an accident. The first scholarship was in Ifor’s name and the program has continued to this day.
Scholarships are twofold: high school and university students.
High school – it can cost more for the family to send a child to high school because they are larger schools often in central l locations. The student has to board out to go to school. School also runs for 10 months of the year.
University students go to uni for 4 month blocks. They can work between to help defray their costs, which also include room and board.
Building Knowledge is run entirely by volunteers who give their time, effort, travel, and accommodation costs as their contribution. We guarantee that all the money raised is used for the construction and operation of new schools in Myanmar.
